Ingredient Spot Light: Lactic AcidUpdated 2 years ago

We love that you are interested in what Lactic Acid is, does, and how to incorporate it into your skin care regimen.

Lactic Acid is an ingredient available in many skin care products and both organically derived and synthetically created versions exist.  Lactic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (one of the more gentle ones) that exfoliates the skin, sloughing off dead skin cells by breaking down the bonds that hold them in place.  It helps to even out texture and discoloration while also stimulating collagen.

You can incorporate Lactic Acid into your regular routine in many ways and how you would start this would certainly depend on the products and product type you have that contains that ingredient.  But because this ingredient generally is known to increase photo-sensitivity, we definitely recommend being mindful to either avoid the sun for a few days after its usage and to use a sunscreen when you will be out!

Our Resurfacing Facial Exfoliant contains a naturally sourced, honey-derived lactic acid and we recommend incorporating this into your skin care routine as a regular treatment.  This product can be used to reduce the appears of fine lines, dark spots, uneven texture and, with its exfoliating properties, create an even and clean base for the skin care products that will follow!  We suggest using a gentle exfoliant like the Ayurvedic Facial Scrub or Kaolin Micro Exfoliant before for a deeper level of exfoliation within the treatment and using a luxurious mask afterwards, like our Illuminating Pearl Mask.
